  • So You're on Xanga 2.0 - Now What?

It's been awhile since I've done a Xanga specific post - so here is an update...

First, I don't know what the Team is up to at the moment.  I just know that several Terabytes of information is still being addressed for millions of people's individual accounts - along with some minor updates to the site itself.

My focus lately has been getting Autisable relaunched, with it's eventual transfer to a company currently in development, and it's promotional efforts.

Now we've on Xanga 2.0 - what can we do to make the best of this platform?

Here's a run down of what is now available on the site.
1 - All Media from Xanga 1.0 (photo's/Videos's) was moved to the Xanga Photos section of your dashboard.   New Media uploads (video/pics/url's) can be managed through the Media section on your dashboard.

2 - If you made a contribution, or paid to be upgraded, your blog posts should not only be able to be seen, you should be able to blog.

3 - If you didn't make a contribution, or pay for the upgrade, your blog posts will not be seen - but are available via the archives.   There should be a notification you can click to prep your archives.  You'll have to wait until they are ready to download - which you will be notified when they are ready.

4 - Also, if you didn't pay for the upgrade - or make a contribution - you still can subscribe and comment on other Xanga blogs.  Check out the "reading" section on your dashboard.

5 - you can manage who you follow (subscribe) to you, and those following you (subscribers to your blog) on the 'Following' section of your dashboard.

6 - you can manage comments on your blog - from spam, to individual comments, under the comments section on your dashboard.

7 - Appearance - you can do minor theme changes at this time.  Upload a new background, place pre-approved widgets onto your site.

8 - You can also add multiple users to your account, thereby creating a collaborative blog.

9 - Importing and exporting tools are available - under the Tools section on the dashboard.

10 - advanced settings are good to look at for formatting and security needs.

11 - Xanga Account Management addresses the status of your account - basic or blogger... (or to shut it down).

    Ok, now what?

One of the things that people need to regularly do is check their 'Reading' section of their dashboard.   People are still blogging, believe it or not.   So, comment, reply, have some fun.

In managing the Xanga facebook page, people are searching for bloggers - even if they aren't on Xanga!  So please, leave a comment on the xanga facebook page with the URL of the blog or blog post.  Or just leave a comment on my blog with the information.

Just remember that some folks have their settings on their xanga blog to being private, or that you have to sign in to view it.  This makes sharing on social media a challenge.  Double check your own settings, make sure they are what you want them to be.

It's up to us to make the site better.   I believe we will eventually see some updates to the site.   Until then, let's make the best of it.

    Until later, keep blogging.

  • So, not really much is recently new, it sounds like ~ I'm still enjoying blogging here ~ gaining a few more readers as time goes by ~ it's okay, for now ~ thanks so much for the update ~ stop by my site sometime!

  • I still am a Xanga blogger, but very disappointed in the whole new Xanga. I haven't found a new user since the change nor been visited by a new reader.
    Stagnation.

    • Due to the upgrade, new readers can only be found when spreading out your wings and leaving comments and sharing what you write. If your account is only accessible by people logging in, then there's another hurdle people have to go through to read your content.

Just some notes to say that promoting our individual blogs is paramount to being a part of the community at large. Let me know if you'd like your blog promoted on the Xanga facebook page - happy to help.

  • Thanks for the update.

  • I would like to get more comments and therefore more readers who stop by my site. But I sense an apathy here. I make an effort to go to other sites/blogs, and leave messages, but it seems like they do not care to reciprocate. This is disappointing. I like Xanga, a lot, but there is no camaraderie here like it used to have before. So, when you say we have to spread our wings, we've done that and some. it is up to the readers and bloggers, to have a sense of belonging to Xanga, period!

    • agreed! we all have to work together on this. This reminds me, I have to venture out as well. :)

  • what I am still having trouble with is the writing of the blog itself...I was used to something a tad bit bigger than this...in fact almost the whole page...now all I have to work with is 2 maybe 3 lines at a time...it is hard scrolling back up and down to be sure of what ya said...lol...maybe I just haven't got used to the new age thing a mahoppie thing yet...it took me about 2 weeks of fooling around to find out how to use the Dashboard...but I's learning...LOL

    • On the bottom right of the box where you'd blog, you can increase the size of where you'd type your blog post.

  • It's been several months since we directly heard from the Team. I'm *still* waiting for some word on if we'll ever be able to get notifications that someone replied to our comment, along with some other features from 1.0 had. Sorry, but it's not looking so good, and it's not helping their case to keep Xanga alive once our year of paid subscription is done in October.

  • It's been over 6 months now since they updated. It's only a matter of time until they say that the site is closing for good. Most people who paid won't pay again because of how poor the site is. In terms of quality, content, and functionality xanga 2.0 is more like xanga 0.02.

I'm willing to bet that they're just making up excuses and aren't doing much for xanga 2.0. They totally went black around September 5th and have said nothing since. There's no way that anyone who cared about their community would do that. Even if it was just a once a month update to say that they were moving sites over and had tweaked a couple things on the site it at least let's everyone know that someone is there.

  • I have to renew my Xanga by June 30th. There is nothing setup there for payment yet in Xanga management. However, I think I remember reading that you could go to Paypal and post the payment to be recognized. Am I correct, and what is the yearly amount? Any help would be cool.

    • Good question. I'm sure, however, you should have nothing to be to worry about. That being said, I'd go ahead and e-mail help@xanga.net with your concern.
