Keeping the Foot on the Gas Pedal
Ok folks, here's a few updates to keep you up to date on the latest stuff in my corner of the web... as if the web had actual corners...
John got a detailed update from everyone's response, and has been talking with a couple of folks and will respond soon.
But as he's working on things, and getting ready to respond - there are some common questions I can easily address...
These are the most common issues that have surfaced this past week on Xanga's FB page -
First - IF you have any questions regarding your specific account - please e-mail 'help@xanga.net' with what is going on. Include your username and e-mail associated with the account. This goes for upgrading your account, finding your archives, or just accessing your account in general. I don't handle the accounts, that's the job of The Xanga Team.
Keep in mind that if you haven't upgraded your account, you may not see your blog posts. However, you should have access to your archives. If you don't have access to your archives, then e-mail 'help@xanga.net'.
If you are wanting to stay upgraded, be sure to e-mail Eugenia at 'Help@xanga.net' with your information. You should get another 6 months for free.
Please know that new accounts are not yet available on Xanga at this time. However, if you have an account on Xanga - but would like to upgrade it - e-mail 'help@xanga.net'.
Second - In regards to functionality of your account - realize we are all on the same page. If you can't find something right now, it just may not yet be available. But please don't assume that someone has already shared that something needs to happen... speak up! Share your perspective... we welcome your input. Personally I'd rather have 50 people tell me that we need better commenting and private messaging - then no one speaking up and no feedback was given from the community at all. BTW - better commenting and private messaging are just a couple of items brought to John's attention - along with dealing with the main page and the comments on the Xanga team's blog "awaiting moderation".
Third - I'm here to make sure John and the Xanga Team receive clearly what the Community wants and needs. In short, I'm not a Xanga employee, but just a Xangan in a position to help facilitate communication. If you have complaints, that's ok - I pass those along. My purpose is to ensure that John and the Xanga team are getting the message. The aspect of facilitating the communication is to make sure we are moving forward - and that the community and the Xanga team are understanding where everyone is at.
Those are just the top discussions going on this past week. Feel free to chime in with any more input at anytime here - or on Xanga's Facebook page:

Have a great day!

I am not sure what an upgradae is. I was a lifetime member under the old system, but have to pay for anoher year on Oct 31. I assume the Acct Magt will let me do that.
thanks for the update.
I had lifetime as well under the old system. Suggest you e-mail 'help@xanga.net' to get at least an extension of 6 months.
I refuse to beg for a six month extension. I paid and got a year of nothing. I should automatically be extended for a year.
No one said that you have to beg for anything. Just if you would like an extra six months for free, send an e-mail - that's all. If you don't - then that's your choice.
Thanks for the update! I know that several people faced with the knowledge that their accounts will expire Oct. 31 have opted to leave and are not even considering the 6 month extension... It makes me sad.
Thanks, Joel, for this update! It helps to know, even through an intermediary, that John is at least receiving the communications we are all sending him!
I'm really wondering how you find people here? I haven't found any place to look for blogs to read.
Actually I was told to beg. Good customer service would have dictated an automatic make good for that year of nothing I got after paying for something I naively assumed would at least be as good as the free blogging offered directly through WordPress. Instead I'm told to send an email beseeching Eugenia to grant me a six month extension. The fact I have to ask for anthing is an insult, let alone the fact that they're only willing to give me half of that for which I paid.
1. private messaging
2. being notified when someone answers our comment
3. UPDATES from Xanga ~ PLEASE!
4. a way to find new readers/others' pages
5. options for better headers ~ please ~
Question ~ Do they notify you when you need to renew or are we just supposed to figure that out and where to pay, etc.?
Good suggestions!
Most of these have been passed along to John and the Xanga Team.
John is catching up on a couple of things at the moment, but he will be providing a followup of updates on a regular basis.
As for your question - you should get a notification. However, feel free to go ahead and send an e-mail to Eugenia at 'help@xanga.net' for the 6 month extension (at no charge) - along with instructions to pay, etc..
Well just renewing the accounts that have canceled would be a good show of faith. We are not really trying to make a few more dollars by just seeing who is dumb enough to send more money. Who would do that! Not when we provided you with nothing the last time you sent money to us
A six month extension for those who want it is a start. They know they dropped the ball, and now they are trying to make it right.
I've been talking with John and the Team regularly, giving them the pulse of the community - including some responses that are very similar to yours.
For those that help make Xanga better by being a very active part of the community - free blogging is available.
If people want to be a part of it - we're all in this together. If not, that's their choice - and it's being respected.
It would actually be awesome if Xanga could just figure out something that was a semblance of their old system. And if maybe they could figure out their finances and return to their free-account ways. I understand that's a lot to ask for, but Xanga has lost its glory and I know a lot of that is due to its loss of members. A great deal of that was the roleplaying community, which was essentially entirely destroyed by the upgrade. There are a lot of old faithful that would return if Xanga could cater to them a little better.
I did not get a notification that my account was going to expire. I just knew the time was nearing an end. Then i logged on and sure enough...it had expired. (Somewhere above i see you said we were supposed to get a notification.)
My BIGGEST request is something i've been dealing with all year. I WANT ALL MY OLD XANGA PICTURES BACK! I'd say 1/2 are missing from my blog. I've been in contact with Eugenia about this and the team is aware that they are missing. I was never able to archive my photos b/f the shut down (too many photos maybe?) so don't have a good back up of them. These are priceless to me as is my blog (with photos) from all the years i blogged back then. So getting those back on my blog is invaluable to me!!!
Thanks Joel!
To clarify, you should be notified when it's actually expired once you sign in.
No worries, you can still ask for a free 6 months extension - just e-mail Eugenia at 'help@xanga.net'
Also in your e-mail, ask about getting your old Xanga pics and talk to her about what you shared in your comment. She addresses the account and tech help stuff - so she should be able to point you in the right direction.
Hope that helps!
Thanks Joel. I've been in contact with Eugenia for the past year about my missing photos. She has been in contact with the tech team.... But, nothing has changed. I did mention it again when i requested my 6 months.
I have a request: I was playing around with wordpress today and noticed that you can add "media" (photos) and they show up in the posts as photos. THIS WOULD BE WONDERFUL if Xanga would do that as well. It's difficult for me to post several photos and write about them when they're all in code. I'd much rather SEE the photo that i'm writing about. (Like the old Xanga did and WordPress gives the option to do.) Having that option would be invaluable! Huge time saver!!!
Thanks Joel!
