We know that there are plenty of concerns with these "sister" or "ish" sites, but what's nice is that they actually do serve a purpose. They talk about specific concerns/issues - or provide a level of information that comes from people who blog on the Xanga platform.
Being a Parent of an Autistic Child, I found that there are only a couple of blogging communities available on the web dedicated to the Autistic community.
To be honest, of the communities available, it's rather closed knit. So, in order to really tell the world our stories:
like dealing with standing in line, the funny looks from other people, the challenges working with doctors....the struggles or joys of day to day life with Autism....I've started an Autism Blog. Check it out here:
Autisable.xanga.com. (actual site name still being determined)
The silence of those with Autism and why there's such a movement for awareness makes it evermore needed that these voices need to be heard, and a larger outlet needs to be provided for the Autistic community.
I believe the general public needs to have more of an idea of what life is like with ASD.
At this time, I'm working with
theXangateam to make this community blogsite a reality, and am excited to share that they are happy to help in this journey. Still working out many of the details of the site, but our hope is to launch it in mid-April (if you don't know, April is Autism Awareness Month).
So, if you have a story to share, or have ASD, or know someone who does - please spread the word about this blog....and about the up coming site. Message me or leave a comment as to where we may find your posts.
Content to kick off this site is needed. (need several hundred posts to start)
Thanks for your support, and be blessed.
UPDATE: a portion of the site revenue will be donated to autism research. (where specifically is still to be determined)
UPDATE2: link fixed.
(I am overwhelmed and touched by everyone's comments and recommends - thank you very much)

I'm glad you are doing this; I am a parent of a 22 yo Asperger's son, and we have been through it all!
That's a good idea. I'd def. sub. =D My sister has autism.
Perhaps you need to build up an ADHD (both children and adult) blog as well. Just my two cents. But your effort is great.
@Murazrai - granted ADHD is a bit different, maybe we could include them to?
@musicmom60 - would love to have any stories to share, to kick start the site with some content.
That's awesome. I'll be sure to check it out. I might possibly be able to help with content. too.
my youngest brother is autistic, and I would love a place to read about how other's deal with these issues and where I put my own two cents down.Â
@edlives - That's is definitely a great idea.
The link isn't working..?
Fantastic
Definitely think this is a good idea!! My cousin's son has autism.
I worked one summer with autistic kids. Any time you want me to write about it, I will.
Let me know Joel.
@Bricker59 - absolutely, just message me the link when you're done. Thanks.
@marniew13 - might be a bit new, I'll take a look and make sure it's working.
@SWAurora - would love to have a post or two to kick start the site, if you're able, just message me the link.
That's amazing! Thanks for doing this
My brother has fragile-x syndrome, which is very similar to autism.
This is awesome. I'm glad Xanga is working with you on this, I know there are a lot of people out there who will have great appreciation for what you're doing.
This is great. I've a close friend (www.savagerecords.com) who's got Asbergers and Savant syndrome who has influenced me greatly. He's an AMAZING musician and such a genuinely kind person.
rec'd, because this is a need.
This is wonderful. I am currently very interested in learning more about autism. I look forward to reading about the experiences of others. Maybe after a while I will have my own stories to share as well, as I start teaching a class of students who all have autism this week. I feel a little overwhelmed, I won't lie.
My cousin Tyler is autistic, so I could probably contribute something. I'm glad Xanga is helping you with this!
My cousin Luke is autistic. He's three and we spend a lot of time together. I've acquired a lot of information about early autism detection and how vital it is. I could potentially contribute.
I work with a great group of folks who do Equine therapy with Autistic children... any help I can offer I will. Good luck with the site, I think it will be awesome.
@xthread - @irisheyessmilin - Thanks, feel free to make a post (or several posts) that we can use for the site to kick it off. We are in need of several hundred to kick the site off well (sounds like a lot, I know).
@Levanna - thank you very much, and I'd like to know more about him too. See if it's ok to make a post about him, and feel free to include his website in the post.
@beachblondie711 - when you have a post, just let me know...as we are really in need.
my little brother is autistic. I'll be interested in following this.
A more generic site might be better cuz the classifications do shift and change over time as our understanding of the human condition improves. Also you might want to include support for other disorders, tourettes, adhd, chronic depression, schizophrenia, identity disorders, retardation, aspergers, etc. etc. Such a overarching site would increase your audience and prevent the bloat development of copycat sites for each individual condition.
That's a great idea! I don't know anyone with Autism, but I think it's a great that you are trying to get recognition for it.
I'll definitely speak with him about next chance I get so I can do a post. :)
