Yesterday afternoon I get a call from Better Half while I'm at work.
She proceeds to tell me that Short Stack's school is closed for the next two days, due to the fact that only two kids showed up to school (that being Short Stack and his classmate)....the rest were sick (some with Swine Flu, others with regular flu)...it's a small private school dedicated to students with Autism.
Now, with 30+ students out, what are they going to do? Well, disinfect. Shampoo carpets, spray disinfectant on everything...wipe stuff down...get it all clean.
So, Short Stack's at home the next couple of days.
The change in schedule can often hinder progress...especially in such things as speech therapy, potty training...and other often simple tasks.
Oh well, got to go with the flow....
And remember...cover your mouth when you sneeze....and wash your hands regularly:
---------------------------------------------------------- Do you get flu shots each year?
Someone told me the flu virus only survives 2-8 hours on surfaces? Closing school down for a day would take care of it then?
@mcbery - One would think that one day would be enough...I think they're just being a bit extra cautious..
@mcbery - If it only survives 8 hours on surfaces then it should be gone from one school days time to another. I found an article by the mayo clinic that says pretty much that the time it can survive varies greatly but may be up to 48 hours. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infectious-disease/AN01238 however our own CDC apparently disagrees with this sort of http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/qa.htm#e right off the top they state that it only survives up to 8 hours but then the instructions below for all the detailed cleaning seem to contradict that statement. I mean if it only survives 8 hours one could just bag things up and leave them for a day and everything would be safe rigth?
Eh, better safe than sorry. It's good that the school is trying to lessen the number of new people getting sick.
My work sometimes offers flu shots for free, so I have taken advantage of them when offered. The year there was a big shortage I opted not to get one because I figured there were children and elders that needed it more than I did.
I think any school is a cesspool for viruses...
I don't believe in flu shots, I also don't believe in dentists, but thats a whole other story lol.
I hope short stack is able to adjust to the change in routine the next couple days.
I used to get the flu shot but when I researched it I stopped taking it because it can and probably has contributed to alot of problems of mine. I always got the flu when I got the shot anyway
Huge Props!
@edlives - Thanks for sharing my story about Kwik Trip on The Confrontation Man Blog.
