I like watching mystery shows. You know, whodunits. However, my biggest criticism of most crime shows is that they are rather formulaic in their approach. Usually the person who committed the crime was revealed within the first 15 minutes of the show - and it takes the rest of the 45 minutes of the program for the show to progress where the characters confirm what you've known all along.
Here's something from the vlogbrothers that show what I mean about how formulaic some murder mysteries are:
However, I do have to say that this really applies rather well to US based crime shows. I have found some Crime shows out of the UK that are much better.
Current favorite: Foyle's War - mixes in WWII history with more than just Murder cases.
There are several other UK shows that I like that keep the audience guessing until near the end.
I am so glad you like Foyle's War it's a great show and personal as my mother's family spent their war in Sussex. My great favourite is Morse, but I also love Taggart, New Tricks, Sherlock and Frost. I love many of the American crime shows especially the forensic ones like CSI (come back Griss we miss you!), I like that many of them carry important social messages, I love SVU but I think the Cold Case episode "Strange Fruit" is one of the most powerful shows ever!
@edlives - Seriously perhaps someone should consider the impression of the USA given by the shows you export, is the USA really full of sociopathic serial killers, dumb blondes only interested in money and shoes, crooked politicians, drug dealers and the mafia? Still great scifi, comedy and animation.
@Springingtiger@autisable - so true. Amazing also how many of us don't like watching what we export to the rest of the world.
Dude you should see the Indian equivalent of CSI. The few episodes I watched before I stopped watching altogether, I kept guessing at the conclusions and getting them all wrong, but for all the wrong reasons. -_-

@Springingtiger@autisable - We just finished watching Frost and also Morse, both good shows.
@edlives - Who says the Americans have no taste?
@Springingtiger@autisable - I blame the media. :)
