  • A Reasonable Solution

The two laws that many did not know about - SOPA and PIPA - came to full view yesterday when over 10,000 websites and hundreds of thousands of people protested and contacted their Representatives.

Now Lawmakers have turned against the anti-piracy bills amid the internet blackout - here's the link: http://bit.ly/xrv3vY

However, the challenge lawmakers face is still upon them.

Piracy and copyright issues are a serious issue - but not at the potential expense of domestic websites that have been around for some time.  Piracy of copyrighted material can cost people their jobs, and also can threaten not only the entertainment industry, but also rob people of their concepts and ideas that they share.

So this is the challenge - to find a reasonable solution.

For sites like Xanga (and Autisable) this would mean that they would have to monitor all user-generated content (and comments / links, etc...) in order to ensure that no piracy issues have been cited/broken (or risk being shut down themselves).

There was a lack of understanding of how the web works in the writing of these bills - and how people use the internet on a regular basis.  This is the core of the challenge in tackling the issue of piracy and copyright problems.

There should be, however, reasonable solutions that could benefit the entertainment industry AND allow the internet user to be able to express themselves without fear of being shutdown or censored....all without Congress getting involved.

What reasonable solutions would you recommend to resolve these issues?
