Day 12 - The Campaign Continues

Day 12 of the 45 day campaign - and we're still moving forward.
I had a chance to talk with @thexangateam, and they are hard at work with getting things together for Xanga 2.0.
I expressed that they need to provide an update, and they agreed that it's long overdue- so expect one soon.
The goal of Xanga 2.0 is to upgrade the site. The fundraiser is to make sure these upgrades can happen.
The sooner we reach the goal, the more upgrades can be done prior to the relaunch, then after the relaunch, even more upgrades will happen.
I'd like to focus on the what Xanga 1.0 offers.... US. You and me, and the rest of our community. We are the people that Xangateam is saying they want to work with to make Xanga 2.0 happen. #WeAreXanga
They've been around for over a dozen years, paying for the servers, doing the labor, listening to us cry out and complain about this that and the other. Now, they are asking for our help. They want us to help them make 2.0 better than 1.0. To bring our platform up to industry standard, and more competitive to the market.
They want our involvement in the development of the platform after it's launched as well. They are providing an avenue by using the open source technology of worpress for us to be able to help out in ALL aspects of Xanga 2.0's development.
Many people will have the opportunity to blog for free - read this from the fundraiser page:
------------
We also plan to rework Xanga to tap the power of the community so that we can be much more responsive and community-driven. We would ask for volunteers in various areas, including:
* Spam fighters: to help us fight spammers and remove spam
* Themers: to help us design or find gorgeous themes to make available to all
* Plugin developers: to help us develop and deploy new features
* Plugin evangelists: to help us find and test new plugins
* Jury members and Judges: to help us resolve abuse complaints
* Helpers: to help members with customer service
* Documentation writers: to help us write up world-class documentation for the site.Volunteers would receive free Xanga blogging memberships that they could gift to friends, and our most active volunteers would be invited to join our decision-making bodies.
* A product council: to prioritize product development efforts
* A frontpage council: to figure out the best way to promote member content--------------
I'm here to share that they have ALREADY begun some of that community involvement.
The donation is to help get the upgrades done, our involvement in the ongoing development of Xanga 2.0 will ensure Xanga's future.

How much heartbreak will there be when July 15th rolls around and there's, say, $54K donated....sigh.
@milfncookies - That would be a bummer, now wouldn't it. But if we all chip in and encourage others to do so... than we should reach it easily.
Does having more "backers" convince others to pitch in? If there are not enough new daily "backers" does that drive some on-the-fence watchers to despair and away from contributing?
If the answer to either of these questions is "yes", then anyone contributing multiple $1 Rewards becomes a multiply-counted backer. Contribute $3 in $1 Reward increments and "backers" increments by 3.
Now that doesn't raise a lot of money, but may make it look like there is more interest in contributing.
When Xanga started up in 1999-2000, some of the still in-the-closet owners (Genius, etc.) used numerous alias blogs to post and comment on each other in order to give the fledging community a sense of critically frequent traffic. Critically frequent traffic equaled life and vibrancy in the eyes of newcoming members. So the newbies stayed and joined in and in time became the sole source of the critically frequent traffic.
I am not suggesting anything. Just observing a dynamic. Draw your own conclusions.
@notforprophet - interesting point.
*And if you are wondering how I can claim with certain authority that I knew how Xanga was promoting itself in its formative months, it is because I entered (and observed and analyzed) through back cyber doors that had been left open. Doors that revealed Xanga's "dark matter". Doors now either closed or in perpetual disuse.
I still have faith Xanga can get $60,000 the next 20 days will be key. to see whether we can get to 95% towards the target..
I'm just happy that we're still getting pledges
We can do it!
Anyone commenting at this particular spot is a interested volunteer. Sorry that I have ignored a lot of your posts but basically I should do more action. I suppose the next thing to do is for me to pay for premium and make a pledge.
I do hope that we do more fundraising activities here at xanga. Roadless taken radio blog is one venue and St. Vi is another venue.
@PPhilip - If you're able to pledge $48 - then you're good to go in Xanga 2.0.
There's plenty to do in getting the word out - and in informing people.
@edlives - I will get premium to show how grateful for all the years I used xanga and want to save my blog the easy way. Plus my adding the pledge amount is my betting on the future of xanga.
I did do volunteer screening of blogs and videos here at xanga in the early days. I never minded the ads and they are set up to mimic what ebay items I usually check out on my end. I also enjoyed the xanga reviews that you used to do too.
@PPhilip - wow, that was awhile ago. It's been a long time since I've done a BFN Xanga news /reviews updates... (I will have to try to bring those back)
I'm glad to hear the momentum is still going, this is good news!
