Day 16 - The Campaign Continues
The first third of the campaign is over - we're now knee deep in the middle of the 45 day campaign.
@roadlesstaken is continuing his online blogtalkradio interviews of Xangans. I have enjoyed listening to these - great ideas and insight from Xangans, along with some good stories - roadlesstaken.xanga.com/773660996/information-on-my-xanga-online-talk-radio-show/
Being that @thexangateam wants to seriously work with xangans a lot more in Xanga 2.0 - @greekphysique dives into what YOUR vision of Xanga 2.0 could be - and he wants your input as well - http://greekphysique.xanga.com/773901921/your-vision-for-xanga-20/
@marica0701 is another Xangan providing an opportunity to help us reach our Target goal - check out her fundraiser/giveaway - http://marica0701.xanga.com/773900442/savexanga-fundraiser-and-giveaway/ (thanks to marica0701 for using #WeAreXanga)
In order to help me share more about what Xangans are doing - if you blog/tweet/share about the fundraiser - Please use the hashtag #WeAreXanga.
I want to find your posts and share them daily when I update. You can tag both #WeAreXanga and @edlives - and I will be on the lookout.
I have several questions I am still compiling to send off to Xanga HQ to get an answer. These would be the Round 3 list of questions. Thank you for your patience with me as I gather the information and get them off to Xangateam.
Several extra marketing ideas to reach out to Xangans past and present have been submitted to TheXangateam. Some have been suggested already by YOU.
I'm also awaiting answers from round 2 questions. TheXangateam has been pretty slammed in getting 2.0 ready (and from my understanding people want some screen shots)... so we're in wait and see today.
Taking a look at the status (below) - We'd just need 342 people to give an average of $101 each.
Could you be one of those 342 people?
------------------------------
Stats as of this morning:
Backers 256 (9 more since yesterday)
$25,686 of $60,000 - we are at 42.81% to Goal (an increase of 0.61% from yesterday)
Still to raise: $34,314
-------------------------------
Let's keep the momentum going! Encourage people to donate - for us to have the opportunity to make a better Xanga.

If you did donate - then participate in @saintvi 's Biggest Xanga Giveaway - http://saintvi.xanga.com/773743103/the-biggest-giveaway-on-xanga/

It's good that there are still people donating. The progress maybe a bit slower than we would like but I think if everyone just starts encouraging the ones who are still on the fence, we should get there.
Thanks for the update. I'm gonna be using the hashtag most definitely.
The 15th would be a payday for a lot of people! Perhaps Monday! I hope we see a bump then! If not - I may start to worry!
Joel, I was just thinking of something. Is it possible that the $60,000 needed to get Xanga started would be something Xanga Inc. would need on a yearly basis ?
With my new understanding of how software is 'sold' today, very little of it, especially the good stuff is actually purchased one time. It is more loaned to the user at a monthly rate. For example, several anti-virus and firewall software does this.
Some business applications too. Will Xanga just need $60,000 in donations this one time or will it need this amount in donations on an annual basis in order to survive ?
And while it might be a moot point ATM. How much of this $60,000 could've been used to maintain current Xanga, and for how long ? This amount should certainly not be considered a small figure by any means - especially if Xanga is, as they are saying, in dire and financial straits strapped for cash.
Thank you for the shout-out for my fundraiser! Hopefully I get at least one sale - I busted my bum this week to make more stuff for this haha.
@dw817 -
Is it possible that the $60,000 needed to get Xanga started would be something Xanga Inc. would need on a yearly basis ?
Answer: NO, this is just for upgrades. The pay to blog changeover will cover the regular day to day items. As Xanga grows, so will their available budget. Pay to blog model will stabilize their revenue stream.
Will Xanga just need $60,000 in donations this one time or will it need this amount in donations on an annual basis in order to survive ?
Answer: Again, No, this is just needed for these upgrades and relaunch.
How much of this $60,000 could've been used to maintain current Xanga, and for how long ?
Answer: The $60,000 is to raise funds for the upgrade and relaunch - not being used to keep Xanga 1.0 operational.
there are many unactive Xangans who don't even know all this is going on. perhaps it would be a good idea for Xanga to send an email to all Xanga members (since they have everyone's email) and let them know, hence getting inactive members active, and also receiving funds from them as well.
?
Still waiting to see how Xanga plans to bring in new subscribers to a paid only system once attrition hits. Also waiting on them to show competency.
@plantinthewindow - this has been heavily suggested and discussed. I would suspect this will be happening.
@bloggicus_maximus - What would constitute as competency in your eyes?
How about someone on Xanga Team create a "Save Xanga Blogs - Donate to move Xanga.com to WordPress" badge that is hyperlinked to the Donation Link that we can all put up on our blogs.
@edlives - Firing everyone involved with the management of Xanga and bringing in people who know what the hell they're doing would be an excellent start. The past few years have proven that Xanga is a sinking ship without a crew who knows how to patch up the hull.
I can't believe anyone still thinks they know what they're doing. Haven't the last three or so years of abjectly miserable management and lack of communication taught you nothing? Sure they're trying NOW, but why didn't they bother years ago when it actually MATTERED?
And once attrition hits, do they even have a plan to bring in new blood who might in all likelihood be turned off by the paid-only model? So far I haven't heard shit about it. They don't have a working alpha build, they don't even have a financial plan in place aside from "We need sixty grand in a month and a half, sorry we didn't tell you this sooner, apparently we don't even know when our lease runs out!!!!!"
You're putting an awful lot of faith in a team that has absolutely no idea what they're doing, or how to run an effective social media site in the year 2013.
@edlives - Thanks Joel, good answers all. I just get worried sometimes, I'm a worrier with lotsa practice. Just keep hoping someone's gonna say, "We don't need to move ! Everything's working great now !"
Well ... Anyways - here's hoping to a successful future Xanga ! [Image]
My question for the Xanga team is this: Why the lack of communication, on every subject from early ideas of massive upgrade to not even bothering to encourage the community (that they're clearly trying to sell to future users) to raise the money that they need?
Loaded question, but it also needs an answer.
@emily_shannon - I can give you my observation on this subject, but that wouldn't mean anything. I will pass this loaded question on to them as well
.@bloggicus_maximus - so, how we'll do you think Autisable is run?
Thank you for volunteering your time and bringing us the precious news.
@ZSA_MD - Glad to be of service.
